We have seen many performances in the Indian T20 League that have blown our minds. Generally, these players are a worthy contender of an orange or a purple cap. In this article, we will talk about players that have held orange cap in the various seasons of the Indian T20 League.

Shaun Marsh (2008)

The Australian batsman, owned by Punjab holds the title for the most runs scored in the inaugural season of the cash-rich tournament. Marsh scored 616 runs with a strike rate of 139 in the 11 matches that he played. He also scored a century and 5 half centuries.

Matthew Hayden (2009)

Another Australian batsman who opened for Chennai played 12 matches and with a strike rate of 144 he scored 572 runs. He had the highest score of 89 runs with 5 half centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar (2010)

The master blaster held the orange cap in the third season of the league. Mumbai based batsman, Tendulkar played a total of 15 matches and scored 618 runs. Just like Hayden he too had 5 half centuries and 89 as his best score.

Chris Gayle (2011&2012)

In the fourth and the fifth season of the Indian T20 league, the mighty Gayle played with Bangalore and struck 608 runs in 12 innings in 2011. He went on to score 733 runs in 12 innings in the fifth season. Gayle scored runs with a whopping strike rate of 183 and 160 in both the seasons respectively. He hit 3 centuries and 10 half centuries altogether. He also holds the record of most sixes in the cash-rich league.

Michael Hussey (2013)

Hussey played a total of 17 matches in which he scored 733 runs with a strike rate of 129. He was bought in by Chennai and performed well throughout the sixth season. He also hit 6 fifties.

Robin Uthappa (2014)

Chennai based player, Uthappa used to play with Kolkata back in 2014. He scored 660 runs in 16 matches and that year Kolkata won the title the second time. With the strike rate of 137, his best score was 83 unbeaten.

David Warner (2015, 2017 & 2019)

The only batsman to wear the orange cap in three seasons, Warner has an impressive record in the league. The Hyderabad batsman scored 562, 641 and 692 runs in the three seasons respectively. He struck a century in the latter two seasons and had a strike rate of above 140 in each of the three seasons.

Virat Kohli (2016)

The Bangalore skipper has an amazing record of 973 runs in the eighth season of the league. With the best score of 113, Virat scored runs at an average of 81 in 16 matches and with the strike rate of 152. He delivered 4 centuries and 7 half centuries.

Kane Williamson (2018)

The New Zealand skipper played with Hyderabad and contributed the most runs for his team in 2018. He scored 735 runs in 17 matches. With the strike rate of 142, Williamson hit 8 half centuries in the league.

KL Rahul (2020)

The Punjab skipper scored most runs in the previous season of the league that was held in the UAE. In 14 matches Rahul scored 670 runs and his best score was 132 which also stands in the list of most runs scored by an individual. Apart from that he scored 5 half centuries in the league.
